Leading With Confidence

Posted By Waylee George | 01:22pm |

Thanks for visiting. This space is designed for those who want to enjoy being in a leadership role!

No matter how we arrived at our current position of manager, we can all agree that in order to be successful in our current positions we need a specific set of skills to work successfully with our employees. We can also agree that our achievements are measured by our staff’s performance. With that said, we believe that spending time and energy on developing and expanding our people skills and making improvements in knowing how to work with our staff can only  increase our effectiveness.

Therefore we decided to share our idea of "Leading with Confidence" . It describes the the skills we need to become a strong and competent  managers.

We will, at this site, provide information and illustrations, as well as “Tips for Success” and “Action Plans.” It is designed for those who want to enjoy being in a leadership role!

This space was designed for all leaders. Our reasoning for doing so is that we believe the people-related skills required by both supervisors and managers (CEOs,CIO, etc.)—and even vice presidents—are identical. The responsibilities may be significantly different, but the people-related skills are basically the same.

I have spend almost my entire adult life in some leadership role over the last 22 years. From Public Affairs Director to Operations Manager and General Manager of small radio stations to Accounts Manager for  public corporations with people to manage. Over those years, apart from the technical skills, I learned five effective basic skills for working with employees. here below is a summary of those skills. We will provide detail descriptions explanations of each in our next posts:

1. Setting Goals and Planning Actions.

2. Delegating: Succeeding through Others.

3. Coaching: Improving Performance.

4. Motivating: Creating the environment.

5. Leading: Earning Followers

As we share our ideas, it is important to realize this blog for what it is: insight on the skills needed to be a great leader. We are the first to agree that the information will not work in every situation. One will have to adapt the material to meet one's unique needs and situations.

The bottom line is the skills presented here will work, if one is willing to invest the reading time, as well as the skill-building practice on the job, we promise that you will be proud of the results. You and your employees will accomplish more...and everyone will gain more enjoyment from working together. We wish you success!
